Dutchies on a visit! Part two - mommy edition

Last week it was time for a generation visit in Turku, my mom and grandmother came to visit me! We had such a nice time and it was great to show them my current hometown. Just like my previous 'Dutchies on a visit' post, my mother wrote something about her time her.

Finally the time had come that Aniek her grandmother and I would go to Turku to visit Aniek. A three generation trip, so special! It was the first time in her live that granny would go on a plane. On Friday the day started early, we had to be at the airport at five a.m. Being the airport was already an experience. From seeing all the happening at Schiphol, and going through the douane. After that it was time for a cup of coffee and a croissant. While eating this it felt like we were in Finland already, because next to us there was plenty of talking in Finnish. Then it was time to get on the plane and get to Helsinki. Granny didn’t liked the take-off at all, but once this was done it felt to her like travelling by train. Soon it was time to get the plane down and we arrived in Helsinki. We picked up our suitcases and went to the car rental. A kind Finn helped us out and we could get on the road to the place where Aniek lives. Luckily it was not that hard to find, only a straight road for 150 km. On our way it was time to get some coffee again and eat a sandwich. The last one was not so good, because of the huge amount of salty-tasting butter.

While driving, the surroundings were beautiful, which we enjoyed to the fullest. Around two we arrived in Varissuo where she picked us up. It was so nice to see her again, and some tears were left. Emma and Aniek showed us the apartment and we gave them the groceries that they ordered. They went straight to the tasting and it looked like they never had cheese before.
After a cup of tea we went to the hotel to drop our stuff and went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. Delicious! We were all a bit tired so we went to bed early to get some sleep.

After waking up it was time for some breakfast and a roadtrip to Naantali. The weather wasn’t that nice, so we just drove around and saw some of the nature of Finland. The autumn colours did nature well, and everything looked beautiful. After this Aniek showed us the centrum of Turku. We did some shopping and granny and I enjoyed the city. Again it was time for some dinner, where Emma joined us. We eat the best burgers ever. After dinner it was time to play some card games and went to bed.

The next day we drove around with the car again to see some more of Turku. We visited the castle and made some family pictures. Aniek took us to Espresso house where we drank some coffee and eat the typical Finnish cinnamon bun.
In the afternoon we made Aniek her overall ready, and sewed the patches on. Turned out really good. Then it was already time for our last dinner in Turku. We choose some Chinese restaurant and after eating we brought Aniek back to her apartment.
The days went by so quickly and we already had to say goodbye again, but we made some good memories. Granny and I left the next morning to get on the plane back to the Netherlands again.

We both had a few great days in Finland and it was so nice to see Aniek again and to see why see is feeling so at home in Finland.

Love, mom and granny
