A little bit of Amsterdam in Gdańsk - part one

This week it was time to scratch an other country off of my map, a country that I never thought I would visit, we went to Poland!

A classmate of Emma and me gave us the tip to look at the website Wizzair, so we did, and we could not believe our eyes.... Tickets started at a price less than 30 euros?! So we quickly booked a flight to Poland, Gdańsk to see some more of Europe.

We flew on Thursday from the airport of Turku. The flight would take 1,5 hour, but because of the time difference, we arrived half a hour later in Poland. The search for a bus or train could start and we tried to figure out how the system worked. At the end we just bought some ticket and hoped that it would be the right one. Let's say, it doesn't matter how you do it, if the result is what you want. And we arrived in the city center, so we achieved our goal for that day!

It was already dark so on the way to our apartment we could only see some of the city center, but it already looked really beautiful! Luckily we found our apartment soon and we didn't got lost and the apartment was everything we could wish for. Like real students, we hired this apartment with a great bed and nice sitting area, totally loved it! We ordered some pizza and tried out the bed after that.

In the morning we went out of the building, and for what was there we couldn't prepared for..... It was the coldest temperature I had ever felt in my life, our phone told us that it felt like -15°C. How could we survive this?! But we braved the cold and started to explore the city.

We found this cute breakfast place and picked out some Polish sweets. After that we ended up in a free walking tour, the perfect way to see the highlights of a city. We almost froze to death but we made it to the end of the tour.

The guy told us that the city has a lot of influences from the Netherlands, especially when you look at the architecture. The houses have the same facades as you see in Amsterdam. It was really nice to see something from home so far away and interesting to learn some new stuff. When we arrived we already said to each other that it looked so much like Amsterdam, but we didn't knew that we had to do with some real Dutch influence here in Poland.

After the tour we visited thMuseum of the Second World War. Poland is located between Russia and Germany, so a lot of history has happened in this country. The museum told and showed us so many impressive information and stuff. I always find it so confronting to see the pictures and see movies about this part of history. I'm glad we visited this place to learn some more about this important part of the history of Poland.

When we got out of the museum it was already dark and we decided to find a place to eat. We ended up in a place with some live music and enjoyed our night.

Let's get ready for our second full day in Gdańsk!

Nähdään!
